THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH

Did you know that there is a giant patch of junk that is currently floating in the Pacific Ocean? I didn't either until my friend Doug told me about it. Apparently, it stretches from the coast of California to almost Japan and is TWICE THE SIZE OF TEXAS! Reaching almost 90 feet deep in parts, it is made mostly of plastic, and its becoming a real problem for the animals that live there. Hmmm.... lets see small fish eats plastic, big fish eat small fish, human eat big fish. Yep, another reason not to eat fish. I'm also recycling now. Always! In addition, I'm breaking down and buying those take home bags at Kroger. It may not be much, but I'm going to try and do my part. This is getting out of control! Don't believe me? Listen to Oprah. She starts up at about the 2:28 mark of this video.

The Kroger recycle bags ROCK! I love mine! That's four cents off per bag. Make sure you ask for it at the checkout! Every penny counts

I started using the reusable bags too. They hold a lot. For a family of five I use about 6. I have a really hard time remembering to bring them into the store though!

They really do hold a ton. Plus I love the way my lettuce looks peeking out the top of them... like I am so healthy.

We forget to put them in the car so we can bring them to the store a lot, but I'm going to be better about that. I need to do my part too. Thanks for the reminder Phil.

Also, in case the Texas Ocean Garbage doesn't do it for you, look at this artist's project on all our garbage (especially click on Intolerable Beauty): http://www.chrisjordan.com/

Its like you read my thoughts! You appear to know so much about this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something.
I think that you simply could do with some percent to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of
that, that is wonderful blog. A fantastic read.
I will certainly be back.
